DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Mustangs freshmen Bryson Dechambeau and Maxime Blandin both posted top-five finishes at the fifth annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate co-hosted by Baylor and SMU on Tuesday afternoon.
Both players finished at five-under for the tournament. Blandin, who played as an individual, held the lead after shooting an eight-under 63 in round two, but shot a four-over 75 in the final round to fall behind by two shots to eventual co-champions Ian Davis of Oklahoma State and Ian Vandersee of Iowa.
The Mustangs finished at four-under for the tournament, good for fourth place, six strokes behind the team champion Oklahoma State. Junior Harry Higgs tallied SMU's low round of the day, shooting a two-under 69. The solid round helped Higgs move up 18 positions on the leaderboard between rounds two and three.
Blandin's second round 63 is the second-lowest single-round score in tournament history. The native of France posted 10 birdies during the round. Dechambeau's fourth-place finish is his second top-five result in three events this fall. Both Blandin and David Lee were making their collegiate debuts at Royal Oaks.
The Mustangs will finish off their fall schedule in San Martin, Calif., at the Gifford Collegiate at Cordevalle starting Monday.
