DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman Maxime Blandin made his first-career collegiate start on Monday at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate co-hosted by SMU and Baylor. The native of Martinque, France, decided to quickly let everyone know of his ability.
Blandin shot a second round 63, including 10 birdies, to give himself sole possession of first place overall at nine-under. The round would've been the tournament record, but Finley Ewing IV of Texas Tech shot a 61 in what was a low-scoring day.
Bryson Dechambeau (four-under) and Mario Clemens (one-under) are the other two Mustangs that are under par thus far. Ryan Burgess bounced back from a tough first round to shoot three-under in the second session.
Texas Tech holds the team lead, with Oklahoma State two strokes behind. One more shot back is Iowa in third, and then SMU is tied with Texas A&M, seven shots off the lead.
Play starts back up for the final round at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. Fans can follow the scoring live with GolfStat.
