OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs finished the first round at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in 11th after the challenging course led to over-par rounds for all but four individuals in the entire 75-man field.
"The conditions were tough on a very demanding course," Head Coach Josh Gregory said. "We will grind it out and move up the board tomorrow."
SMU is playing its first tournament of the season in a 15-team field that includes eight ranked teams, including No. 21 SMU. Gregory believes his team can bounce back and strengthen its position in the second round.
"Hopefully we got the nerves out of our system and we will play well tomorrow," Gregory said.
