Mustangs Remain In Second As Schovee Continues To Lead East Regional

GREENSBORO, N.C. (SMU) – Matt Schovee continued his solid play on day two of the NCAA East Regional, shooting a 2-under, 69, to remain atop the leaderboard. After an even par first round, SMU carded a 6-over, 294, yet remains in second, six shots above the current cutline for the NCAA Championship.
With another four birdies to add to his tournament total of 10, second at the regional, Schovee sustained his lead individual at 7-under par. With birdies on No. 2 and 5, the senior fell back to even as bogeys on No. 11 and 13, but closed out the round with birdies on No. 15 and 18 to get back to 2-under for the round.
After a 76 yesterday, Max Buckley rebounded today with a 2-under, making birdies No. 6, 8, 12 and 13. Sam Fidone also came back strong after a tough first round, going 2-over after finishing his round with consecutive birdies.
No. 31 Liberty remains at the top of field at even par. No. 18 Florida is in third at 10-over after being the only team to shoot under par on the day (1-under), while No. 3 Auburn and Lamar sit in a tie for fourth 12-over.
Final round action is set begin tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. CT, with the Mustangs starting their day at approximately 7:45 a.m. SMU will be paired with Liberty and Florida.
