Mustangs Finish Second At The Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. (SMU) - Freshmen Bryson Dechambeau and Austin Smotherman each finished under par as they led the No. 19 SMU Mustangs to a second-place finish at The Duck Invitational hosted by Oregon.

Oregon won the event for the second straight year. SMU placed second, ahead of fifth-ranked Washington and UAB. Wichita State and Oregon State tied for fifth.

Dechambeau earned his second consecutive top-five finish, tying for fourth at -4 after a bogey-free final round. Smotherman earned his first-ever top-10, tying for sixth at -3 after shooting a three-under final round. Dechambeau did not post an over-par round during the tournament, and Smotherman bounced back from shooting two-over in the first round on Monday.

Senior Mario Clemens tied for 10th at even par. The result is Clemens' second top-10 of the season.

Jonathan Woo of Oregon snagged individual medalist honors, finishing at -8.

The Mustangs' next tournament is the Insperity Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga., April 5-7. Gregory coached Augusta State to two national championships in 2010 and 2011.
