Mustangs Drop To Fifth On Day Two In Cabo

LOS CABOS, Mexico (SMU) - After beginning the day tied atop the leaderboard, the SMU Mustangs battled more wind and higher scores during round two on Monday, dropping into a tie for fifth overall at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Monday. Austin Smotherman carded a four-over par 75, but remained in the top 10.
Smotherman started the day in the lead group and was two-under for the round on the front nine, but he finished the back nine at six-over to slide into a tie for ninth overall. Bryson Dechambeau carded SMU's top round of the day, tallying a one-over 72. Ryan Burgess was also two-under through nine holes, but three straight bogeys on holes 13-15 dropped him out of the top 10.
Houston leads the tournament by four strokes over Baylor, who posted the best team round of the day at three-under par. Alabama is third, while Kentucky sits in fourth and Vanderbilt is tied with SMU for fifth. Houston's Roman Robledo leads all players at six-under par, while Baylor's Kyle Jones shot a 65 to climb up to second. Vanderbilt's Charlie Ewing is third, and Stewart Jolly of LSU and Robby Shelton of Alabama completed the top five.
The final round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. local time tomorrow morning. Participants will continue to play in foursomes, with SMU grouped with Vanderbilt, LSU and Arkansas.
