Greatest Moments

As we countdown to the greatest moment in SMU football history, you will see that great moments can come in a variety of ways. While amazing runs and thrilling touchdowns usually make highlight reels, one former SMU player put forth one of the greatest individual efforts in Mustang history as a kicker. Former SMU place kicker Brandy Brownlee kicks his way into the 90 Greatest Moments in SMU Football History with his efforts against Texas Tech in 1985.

Brownlee kicked three field goals on Nov. 16, 1985 to beat SWC rival Texas Tech, 9-7. Facing fourth-and-seventeen late in the game at the Tech 41-yard line, the Mustangs turned to Brownlee who proceeded to kick a school-record 57-yard field goal and give SMU the 9-7 victory.

Brownlee not only scored the game-winning points, he also accounted for all nine of the Mustangs' points for the day. The win sealed SMU's sixth straight winning season. Brownlee finished his career as the leader in career field goal accuracy with a percentage of .714. Brownlee's strong leg kicks him on to our list of the 90 Greatest Moments in SMU Football History.
