TYLER, Texas (SMU) - Junior wide receiver Darius Joseph was named to the second annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List today.

Joseph ranked second at SMU and 10th nationally with 103 catches in 2013, totaling 808 yards and five touchdowns. Joseph caught a career-high 12 passes against both Montana State and Cincinnati last season, placing him 11th on the all-time single-game list in program history.

SMU had two players named semifinalists for the award last season. Both quarterback Garrett Gilbert and wide receiver Jeremy Johnson were on the 16-player semifinalist list.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.

The Watch List announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 4 finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and the previous winner. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet scheduled for January 14, 2015.
