Pope Back For 2014
April 16, 2014
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU's Kevin Pope has been granted a medical hardship waiver by the American Athletic Conference and will return to the field in 2014.
Pope enrolled at SMU in 2010 and played in just one game that fall, carrying three times for six yards against UAB. It was later discovered that Pope was still suffering from the effects of an injury sustained in high school, and the 5-10 running back/linebacker missed the remainder of the 2010 season.
Last season, Pope played and started in 11 of SMU's 12 games at linebacker and finished second on the team in tackles with 91. He played on both sides of the ball the final two games of the season, also lining up at running back, notching 11 carries for 89 yards and five catches for 61 yards in the pair of games.
Pope finished 2014 spring practice as the Mustangs' No. 1 running back.
SMU opens the season on Aug. 31 at Baylor. SMU's 2014 schedule includes games against Texas A&M, TCU and AAC rivals. For season tickets, click here.
