Urban You Turn To Host Imagine 2020
April 2, 2013
DALLAS - Urban You Turn, a division of the June Jones Foundation, is set to host Imagine 2020 on Saturday, April 27th, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the campus of SMU. This high-energy, action-packed event is designed to motivate and inspire attendees to dream big.
Urban You Turn has partnered with DISD and a number of non-profits focused on students in the western and southern sectors of Dallas to make this event happen, and DISD estimates that 5,000 students, parents and teachers will attend. The event will serve as the kickoff for DISD's Strategic Feeder Patter Initiative and Mayor Mike Rawlings' Grow South program.
Imagine 2020 will showcase the resources available to students and parents in their specific neighborhoods that can help make their dreams a reality. Several groups have already committed to hosting booths, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Mercy Street, Big Thought and others. There will also be booths featuring local sports programs, urban summer camps and after-school programs. In addition, University Crossroads is securing the participation of a number of community colleges and universities.
On the day of the event, transportation via buses will be provided from approximately 26 schools to Ford Stadium. Upon arrival at the stadium, students will be greeted by school bands, cheerleaders, multi-media displays, and be given backpacks full of informative brochures, coupons, flyers and giveaways. As they enter the stadium, there will be a Walk of Dreams comprised of 30 booths and there will also be interactive exhibits, free food and entertainment. Rock T (national radio & TV personality) will serve as the emcee. Entertainers include inspirational rapper Propaganda, young R&B singer Coriano, stomp teams, dancers and BMX trick riders. Throughout the day, there will be drawings for prizes including laptops, iPads, sporting goods, amusement park tickets and other cool prizes.
