Two National Telecasts Highlight 2007 SMU Football Slate

DALLAS (SMU) - The 2007 SMU Football schedule will be highlighted by two ESPN national television broadcasts and showdowns with six 2006 bowl teams, it was announced today. SMU will open the season on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, by hosting the Texas Tech Red Raiders for an ESPN-aired game at 3 p.m. The Mustangs will return to Gerald J. Ford Stadium the following Saturday, Sept. 8, as Coach Todd Dodge and the North Texas Mean Green travel south to Dallas. SMU then hits the road to take on Arkansas State in Jonesboro on Sept. 15 before taking the Iron Skillet to Ft. Worth for a showdown with rival TCU on Sept. 22. Coach Mike Price and the UTEP Miners then come to Dallas on Sept. 29 for SMU's C-USA opener at Ford Stadium. After an open week, SMU will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., for its first-ever meeting with Southern Miss on Oct. 13. The Green Wave of Tulane will roll into town on Oct. 20 for a meeting with the Mustangs before SMU heads north to battle the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Oct. 27. SMU will then play its second nationally-televised game of the season at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Houston. On Nov. 10, the Rice Owls fly into Dallas to face off with SMU, and on Nov. 17, the UCF Knights will come to "Big `D'" for an inaugural meeting with the Mustangs. SMU will then wrap up the regular season with a Nov. 24 trip to Memphis to tackle the Tigers. "We're really excited about our two ESPN appearances," said SMU Head Coach Phil Bennett. "We hadn't been on ESPN in almost a decade until last season and now we'll be on at least twice in 2007. I want to thank Dr. Turner and Steve Orsini for working with ESPN and Conference USA to get those games on TV. Our coaches and players are thrilled to have this opportunity."
