DALLAS (SMU) - A pair of exciting events designed to honor the past and celebrate the present of SMU Football have been scheduled for the weekend of April 19-20. The fifth-annual Jerry LeVias Mustang Football Golf Classic and Mustang Football Celebration are set for Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20, respectively.
The weekend will kick off with the Golf Classic, to be held at The Golf Club of Dallas. This year, each team will be paired with an SMU Legend. Each player will also receive a golf shirt, hat, sleeve of golf balls and a team photo of his/her foursome. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. The event will start with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with the tourney itself teeing off at 8:30 a.m. At the conclusion of the rounds, an awards party and auction will take place at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament is named in honor of LeVias, whose contributions to SMU, the country and the game of football are significant. In addition to being the first African-American scholarship player in the Southwest Conference, he was recognized as an All-American, academically and athletically, and went on to have an impressive NFL career.

The following night, SMU will host its Mustang Football Celebration at Renaissance Hotel Dallas to recognize the achievements of the 2012 Mustang Football team, including their school-record fourth-consecutive bowl berth and a 43-10 rout of Fresno State in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. During the Mustang Football Celebration, SMU will honor the Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP and Special Teams MVP for the 2012 football season.
