Nov. 14, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) --- SMU Head Coach Larry Brown announced that Emmanuel Mudiay has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mustangs beginning with the 2014-15 season. Mudiay is a consensus top-5 prospect from Prime Prep Academy in Dallas. He is rated No. 2 overall by Rivals, No. 3 overall by Scout and No. 5 overall by ESPN.
As a junior, Mudiay averaged just over 15 points and 10 rebounds as he helped Prime Prep to a 37-2 record, reaching the semifinals of the National High School Invitational. He played AAU basketball for MWA Elite, averaging 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 2013 after averaging 21.2 points and 6.0 assists in 2012.
Mudiay's signing follows a 2013 class that ranked as high as No. 14 nationally. That group included McDonald's All-American Keith Frazier, one of the nation's top junior college prospects in Yanick Moreira, and a pair of Illinois' Mr. Basketball finalists in Sterling Brown and Ben Moore. They have joined the four returning starters of Cannen Cunningham, Ryan Manuel, Nick Russell and Shawn Williams as well as transfers Nic Moore (from Illinois State), Markus Kennedy (from Villanova) and Crandall Head (from Illinois). The Mustangs also return Kevin Dunleavy and added newcomers Jean-Micheal Mudiay and Jonathan Wilfong.
