DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU men's basketball (@SMUBasketball) team will host walk-on tryouts on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Crum Basketball Center at 6 p.m. Head coach Larry Brown (@LarryBrownSMU) and his staff will provide SMU students a chance to be part of the 2012-13 basketball squad. Students must be enrolled full-time (12-plus hours) and have a completed physical on file in order to participate in the tryouts.
"Walk-ons are an important part of the team," says Coach Brown. "They have a special place in every good college basketball program. We hope to find one or two students that can help our team."
The schedule includes up to nine non-conference games against teams from the Big 12, Pac-12, A-10, Mountain West, West Coast Conference, SEC and Missouri Valley. SMU is also part of the Hoops for Hope Classic that concludes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the 46th annual Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, Calif. The Ponies' home slate has 14 games at Moody Coliseum, which is undergoing a $40-million renovation.
Any student chosen from the tryouts would have to meet all NCAA eligibility requirements to become part of the Mustangs' roster for the season.
