Faye Scores 19 Points As Senegal Improves To 2-0 In FIBA African Championship

TRIPOLI, Libya (SMU) - SMU senior Mouhammad Faye led Senegal with 19 points in an 82-69 victory over the Central African Republic in its second game at the 2009 FIBA African Championship. The Senegalese are 2-0 in pool play and will face Cameroon, which is also 2-0, on Friday in a matchup for first place in Group C. Senegal and Cameroon have already clinched a spot in the championship round.

Faye scored a team-high 19 points as he hit an astonishing 9-of-11 from the field. He was also 1-of-2 from three-point range and grabbed a rebound. Boniface Ndong added 18 for Senegal, as they out-lasted the Central African team.

Faye is currently seventh among the tournaments' active field of 136 players, averaging 20.5 points per game. Angola's Joaquim Gomes leads the category with 31 points per game, while Senegal's Ndong is third with 26.5.

In the tournament opener, Faye helped Senegal to a 95-68 victory over the Republic of Congo. Faye was second on the team in scoring with 22 points while also grabbing seven rebounds.
