JUNE 4 :: GAME 4 - SOUTH AFRICAN CLUB TEAMThe SMU men's basketball team began its last day in South Africa with a 107-87 victory against the South African Club team on Wednesday at Vodacom Mandeville Indoor Centre. Alex Malone led the Mustangs with 26 and Bamba Fall added 24 points. The team then headed for the airport and the journey back to Dallas. They start on a 6:40 p.m. flight (11:40 a.m. in Dallas) from Johannesburg with stops in Dakar and Atlanta before arriving back in Dallas late Thursday morning. It will be almost exactly 24 hours total from takeoff in Johannesburg to touchdown in DFW. Just over 20 hours of that will be in flight. The team is expected to be back on campus early Thursday afternoon. Total real time 23:40 The squad spent four full days in Senegal, spending time in Dakar and St. Louis. The team visited the families of teammates Bamba Fall, Papa Dia, and Mouhammad Faye. Fall and Dia are from St. Louis and Faye is from Dakar. The squad also faced the Senegalese National Team and did a basketball clinic at SEEDS Academy. While in Senegal, the group also toured Goree Island and Pink Lake and visited multiple market places. Then it was five days in South Africa. The team played two more games between visits to the vast array of cultural and historical areas in and around Johannesburg. The squad tour Soweto and the memorials to the struggle against Apartheid, visited Lesedi Cultural Village for traditional tribal lifestyles that included dancing and music, and went on a safari at Pilanesburg National Park.
