SMU Basketball Named Best Sports Team In Dallas By D Magazine

DALLAS (SMU) --- D Magazine named SMU men's basketball the Best Sports Team in Dallas at its annual Best of Big D banquet on Wednesday night. The Mustangs went 27-10 and reached the NIT title game after being ranked in the top 25 in four of the last five weeks of the regular season.

SMU went 18-1 at home last season, setting a record for home victories that included a 12-1 mark inside the renovated Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs set a new season attendance record at 107,412, which included nine sellouts in 13 games at Moody.

The Mustangs had the fourth-largest increase in NCAA Division I men's basketball attendance in 2013-14 and rank second nationally in increased attendance since 2012. In 2013-14, SMU averaged 5,653 fans per home game, an increase of 2,210 over the previous season. The Mustangs are up 3,640 per home game since 2012.

SMU finished tied for third in the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference, going 12-6 with two wins over eventual NCAA Champion Connecticut as well as home victories over Cincinnati and Memphis. The Mustangs were one of five teams from The American ranked in the final week of the regular season.
