DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Head Coach Larry Brown announced that Justin Martin will join the Mustangs for the 2014-15 season. Martin, who played three seasons at Xavier, averaged 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 2013-14. He earned his bachelor's from XU and is expected to be eligible this season.

Martin (6-6, 205) averaged 7.5 points per game and 4.1 rebounds in three years at Xavier. In 2013-14, he was second on the team in scoring (11.7) and rebounding (5.2) while hitting 37.3 percent (50-134) from 3-point range. Xavier earned NCAA Tournament berths in two of his three seasons, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012. The Indianapolis native averaged 10.4 points per game as a junior at Lawrence North High School and spent his final prep season at Mountain State Academy (W. Va.) where he averaged 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds and lead his team to a 22-4 record.

Martin joins Texas Tech transfer Jordan Tolbert and McDonald's All-American Emmanuel Mudiay as newcomers for the Mustangs this season. They add to a team coming off a 27-10 record that reached the NIT championship game. SMU was as high as No. 18 in the national polls while accumulating the second-most wins in program history. The Mustangs finished tied for third in the American Athletic Conference (12-6) and totaled four wins over ranked teams. The squad went 18-1 at home, including 12-1 in the renovated Moody Coliseum, while setting a new SMU single-season attendance record that included nine sellouts.
