DALLAS (AP) -- Paul McCoy led SMU with 15 point and Derek Williams had a season-high seven assists, nut Terrance Calvin hit four straight field goals as Arkansas-Pine Bluff came from behind Monday night to beat SMU 64-62. With SMU leading 62-61, Eric Brooks grabbed an offensive rebound from a crowd of players and launched a high-arcing 17-foot shot that dropped through with two-tenths of a second remaining as he was fouled. Brooks added a free throw for the 64-62 final.
Calvin scored nine points over a 2:40 span to pull Arkansas-Pine Bluff to within one at 62-61 with 13 seconds left. Brooks then hit the jumper and free throw to seal the Golden Lions win.
McCoy led SMU (3-4) with 15 points on 5-of-7 from the field. Papa Dia had 11 on 4-of-8 shooting while Williams and Mike Walker each added nine points. Robert Nyakundi had eight points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs. Bamba Fall had five points and six rebounds with two blocks. That now gives him 195 blocks for his career.
Calvin led Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-7) with 19 points. Lebaron Weathers had 18 for the Golden Lions. Arkansas-Pine Bluff led 29-28 at the half. SMU led by nine at 61-52 before Calvin went on his scoring spree.
The Mustangs renew a series with former Southwest Conference rival Texas A&M when they meet on Wednesday in College Station. The game is televised on Fox Sports Houston at 7 p.m.
