Shawn Williams is in his first season as a Graduate Assistant at SMU (2014-15). Williams joined head coach Larry Brown's staff after completing his collegiate career with the Mustangs.
Williams was a three-year letterwinner at SMU (2011-14), starting 85 of 93 games. As a senior in 2013-14, he helped put the program in the national spotlight as SMU finished 27-10 while reaching the NIT title game. The Mustangs defeated four ranked teams and were in the top 25 in four of the last five regular season polls, being ranked for the first time since 1984-85.
Williams graduated from Duncanville High School (Texas), where he was the Dallas Morning News Area Player of the Year as a senior (2008-09). He was also rated as high as No. 2 in Texas and No. 46 nationally as a senior. He helped Duncanville to a 130-20 overall record, including a 39-0 record in 2006-07 as the team won the Class 5A state title and the mythical high school national championship. He started his collegiate career at Texas before transferring to SMU.
Williams is finishing up his masters in liberal arts, after completing his sociology degree in May of 2013. Both of Williams' parents played college basketball at Central Oklahoma, and his mother is a member of the school's Hall of Fame.
2013-14 (Senior) - Played in all 37 games, starting 36, averaging 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game...GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Scored 11 points (5-7 shooting) to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 steals, an assist and a block in 24 minutes in SMU's 80-67 win over LSU. Tied for the team lead with 14 points to go along with 3 rebounds in SMU's win over Temple. Had a season-high 16 points on a season-high 6 made field goals, to go along with a season-high 7 rebounds in a season-high 26 minutes in SMU's win over USF. It was the second-straight game Williams scored in double figures, after scoring 10 at No. 12/8 Louisville 2012-13: Third at SMU in rebound average with 5.2 a game, in addition to averaging 8.5 points and 0.8 blocks per game...CAREER RANKINGS: 15th in games started (85).
