The Director

Southern Methodist University Soccer is committed to developing quality talent each and every year. Day in and day out, our team experiences intense training that is designed to develop the players to their utmost potential. We work hard to create these training sessions to maximize their abilities. The same focus and attention to detail will be found in our camp program, which is directed towards serious soccer training. At the Brent Erwin SMU Women's Soccer Academy, we will continue the tradition of SMU excellence.

The SMU Women's Soccer Academy invites players of all levels who have a desire to improve and develop their talents. We will strive to give our campers a solid base of technical training and combine that with solid tactical instruction. At our camps, we will utilize the latest training techniques. This ensures that every camper receives instruction that not only lets them improve during the week, but also shows them how to practice after camp is over. Each of our campers receives individual and group instruction designed to meet her specific needs and capabilities.

We want each of our campers to learn new skills and improve upon those they already have. As Head Coach at SMU, and the camp director of the SMU Women's Soccer Academy, I am looking forward to working with you in developing your game. My staff and I will be involved in every aspect of the camp and are eager to help you develop as a soccer player. I hope that you join us this summer!

Brent Erwin
Head Coach, Women's Soccer

The SMU Women's Soccer Academy is one of the premier soccer camps in the United States. Coach Brent Erwin and his dedicated staff of coaches will provide an opportunity to better understand the game of soccer. This program is designed for girls who have a strong desire to improve their abilities as soccer players. Located on the campus and fields at SMU, players will participate in a challenging but fun week of soccer instruction. Once at the SMU Academy, players will be broken into small groups based on age and skill level. This allows every player to improve more quickly as well as receive more individual attention. During the morning sessions, we will teach and correctly demonstrate the skills needed to improve the player's individual technique. Individual creativity is encouraged among our campers in order to develop confidence and a more positive attitude toward the game of soccer. The afternoon session concentrates on tactical development using small-sided games that will allow the players to learn in a game environment. The evenings at SMU consist of nightly tournaments with full-sided games. During these games, the players are able to demonstrate the technique and tactics learned during the day. At the SMU Soccer Academy, we strive to teach the campers the skills that they need to improve along with how to use those skills in the game. Teams are welcome at the camp. You may register together, and we will make sure they stay together with the same coach throughout the week. Parents are welcome to all evening sessions.

Goalkeeper Program

In a difficult game, a good goalkeeper can make the difference between winning and losing. The SMU Goalkeeper Camp provides young goalkeepers of all levels a challenging program that will drive them to excel. Designed by SMU Head Coach and noted goalkeeping clinician Brent Erwin, the SMU Goalkeeping School is widely recognized as one of the premier Goalkeeper training programs in the country. The morning sessions will consist of detailed training in modern goalkeeping techniques. Such topics include catching, diving, breakaways, crosses and footwork.

The afternoon sessions will focus on the fundamental tactics of goalkeeping such as positioning, distribution and communication. In the evening, the goalkeepers will join the field players to compete in tournament games where they will be allowed to demonstrate what they have learned. At the end of the week, each goalkeeper will be given a goalkeeper evaluation that will provide feedback on how they can improve. At the SMU Academy, goalkeepers can be confident they are getting the highest level of training possible.

College Soccer

Many of our older campers have aspirations to play soccer at the collegiate level. At the SMU Soccer Academy, we try to assist these players by giving them as much insight into the recruiting process as we can. A representative from the Sports Source College Soccer Recruiting Guide will come one evening and speak to all of the older players attending camp. This presentation is highly informative to the prospective student-athlete. The presentation is open to all parents and will conclude with a question and answer segment. Finally, the SMU Soccer Academy employs many college soccer coaches who can answer any questions the players may have during the week.

Additional Information

Meals & Lodging (Residential Camps)
We are very excited to announce that lodging at the SMU Girls Soccer Academy is returning to the campus of SMU! The campers will be staying in the same dorms that the SMU Women's Soccer Team stays in during the year! Located right next to the SMU Soccer Fields, the rooms are very comfortable and will be an extremely safe and efficient venue. In addition to the coaching staff staying in the dorms, the SMU Girls Soccer Academy hires a staff to help monitor and supervise the rooms. Meals will be provided as usual in an all-you-can-eat format to ensure that every player's needs are met.

What To Bring
Other than the normal amount of street clothes we suggest that you bring the following items: 1 pair of soccer shoes, 1 pair of flat soled or turf shoes, one pair of tennis shoes (very important), 6 t-shirts, 6 pairs of shorts, 8 pairs of socks, shin guards, 1 swim suit, small bag or shoe bag, sandals, water container, toiletries including sun block, and other soccer type clothes, twin bed linens, a pillow and bath towels,. Don't forget to bring your soccer ball if you did not buy one from the camp.

Medical Care
Each camp will have a full-time trainer from the SMU Sports Medicine staff on duty to take care of all minor injuries. For more serious problems, the local hospital is just minutes away.

Shuttle Service
For those campers who will be arriving by airplane, Dallas offers two airports that you may choose from. The first airport is DFW, which is the areas major airport. The second is Love Field, which is located very close to the SMU campus. Every major airline has flights into DFW and Southwest Airlines has flights into Love Field. Standard taxi fare from these two airports is $25-$50 each way. SMU Soccer Academy has made arrangements to provide service for $10 each way from Love Field, and $15 each way from DFW. The SMU Soccer Academy recommends flying Southwest Airlines into Love Field. For those making flight reservations, check-in is from 2:30-4:00pm on Sunday afternoon and check-out is at 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon. For your convenience, please pay the driver at the time of pick-up. Be sure to notify us of your flight information by contacting Brent Erwin at berwin@smu.edu or at 214-768-4030 no later than seven (7) days before your camp starts. This will help us to confirm your arrival and departure times and ensure that your travel needs are met.

Spending Money & Camp Store
The camp fee includes all the meals that the players will eat during the week. However, many players like to order pizza as a snack after the evening session. Also, some players may want to take advantage and buy the latest soccer gear at our camp store. Please make certain that campers are provided for appropriately.
