Entry 2

Let me start by saying, it's good to be back in Dallas. Although we encountered some trouble along the way, all-in-all, our weekend in Mississippi was a success. We came away with two more wins and hope to continue our winning streak.

On Friday night, we took on the Rebels of Ole Miss. We designated this as one of our tougher games of the season and we knew beating them would be no easy task. We created some opportunities in the first half, but spent a lot of time chasing our opponents. We went into halftime down 1-0, but knew the game was far from over. However, we didn't help our chances any when we let in another goal early in the second half. Twenty seconds later, Krystal Bailey kept Mississippi's celebration short when she took the ball down the right hand flank and slotted a rebounded shot near post. She made the keeper look silly and silenced the crowd in the process. Shortly after that, Olivia tied the game when she received a ball out of the air and placed the ball in the corner of the net. We had Mississippi on their heels and took the opportunity to go for the win. Kirsten played a great through ball to Olivia who beat the keeper and simply passed the ball into the net. With about thirty minutes left in the half, we played solid defense and came away with the win.

On Sunday afternoon, we took on a less technical, but very physical Mississippi State. The game was sloppy at times and unfriendly words were exchanged between both teams throughout the game. Despite out efforts, we were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. After catching some lucky breaks in the first overtime period, we finally scored the golden goal we needed with three minutes left in the game. Ashley played a big ball over top and Jena challenged the keeper for it at the top of the box. The ball popped out and Olivia was there to finish it. Not the prettiest of wins, but a win nonetheless.

Immediately after the game, we drove about two hours to the Jackson Airport so that we could finally head home. However, the combination of bad weather and flimsy airplanes forced us to stay another night in Mississippi. Missing class on Monday was a blessing for some and a nightmare for others. Fortunately, we had plenty of "Mad Libs" to keep us entertained and the next day we all got flights back to Dallas.

Congrats to Olivia for her well-deserved honors this week. I hope to see everybody this Sunday at 1:00 pm for our game against Oral Roberts at Westcott Field. Go Mustangs!
