Nicole Petchey Signs National Letter Of Intent For 2017-18 Season

Petchey Has A Career-High ITF Ranking Of No. 220

– Nicole Petchey has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mustangs beginning with the 2017-18 season, SMU Head Coach Kati Gyulai announced today.

"Nicole will help us build a culture of excellence," Gyulai said. "She is very motivated and has high aspirations for her tennis career in college and after. She will have an immediate impact in our line-up. We can't wait to have her on campus in a few months."

The Cape Town, South Africa, native is one of the top junior players in South Africa and she has been ranked as high as No. 220 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world rankings.

In singles play, Petchey accolades include winning the Euphemia Tlhapane Memor ITF 11 and NTA 18 & Under ITF Event Championships. She has finished runner-up at the ITF U18 Mauritius Open, Curro Junior ITF Week 2 and the Curro Junior ITF Week 1.

In doubles play, Petchey has won the Euphemia Tlhapane Memor ITF 11 title, while finishing as a finalist in the Curro Junior ITF Week 1 and NTA 18 & Under ITF Event.

Petchey anticipates majoring in physiology and sports management.
