"Tip Off Dinner"
We had a great event with over 250 people in Moody Coliseum Tuesday night as we tipped off our new season. Practice starts Friday and our first game is on November 14 at South Florida. Only 23 days of practice before we play USF!
ESPN's Fran Fraschilla did a great job as our keynote speaker. He lives two blocks from SMU and his wife, Meg, happens to be an SMU graduate. I have known Fran for about 20 years. He has been a good friend to me along the way.
One of the best things about the dinner was how sharp our players looked. They were spread out among the crowd, sitting at different tables. What a great opportunity to network! I feel like our players are fit and ready to go. The biggest thing for this team will be leadership. We lost some great leaders in Jon Killen, Derrick Roberts and Paulius Ritter. If we develop good leadership and chemistry I think we can a fun year.
It was a treat to see so many former players in attendance, too. When I look out in the crowd and see Donatas Rackauskas, Jon and Paulius, I feel like we have a program here again. It is VERY important to me that our former players feel connected to Mustang Basketball. They paved the way for these young men and we want them to feel a big part of this special "fraternity".
Pony Up!
