"The Evolution of a Program"
Today former player Paulius Ritter visited my office. We talked about the team, our families, his career and we talked about the leadership on this year's team. I told him that we will miss the leadership that he, Jon Killen and Derrick Roberts provided last year. They were terrific leaders! I mentioned that to the team last night in our first team meeting. This year we only have one senior, Bamba Fall, and two juniors, Mo Faye and Derek Williams. I mentioned that I hoped Bamba, Mo and Derek could fill that leadership void. It was a nice visit. Any time a former player wants to come by is special.
As Paulius was leaving my office, Derek Williams was standing in the lobby. The two came together in the hallway and we discussed our respective conversations regarding leadership. Seeing those two come together made me feel great as I see our SMU Basketball Program evolve. My first two years were almost like two one-year teams. Now going into my third year, I feel a program evolving. These men are now part a special fraternity! A culture is in place that can be supported by upperclassmen and former players. It is great to see!
