"Basketball Workshop"
Today we had some special guests visit our program - Gordon Chiesa from the Memphis Grizzlies and ESPN's Fran Fraschilla.
It is important for me and my staff to get our minds exposed to some new ideas and thoughts as basketball practice will start in two months!!! As college basketball coaches, I don't feel we do enough workshops on coaching! Our time is so consumed with recruiting, academics, fundraising, along with many other things that we end up not being as prepared as we should for our season! This was a great day to grow our knowledge and share ideas.
Gordon and Fran have a wealth of experience for us to draw upon. Here are some of their accomplishments:
Gordon Chiesa:
- worked for Rick Pitino at Providence
- Providence Head Coach
- Utah Jazz assistant for 16 years
- NJ Nets assistant
- Seattle Sonics assistant
- Memphis Grizzlies assistant
- Assistant for Rick Barnes at Providence
- head coach at Manhattan College
- head coach at St. John's
- head coach at New Mexico
- ESPN basketball analyst
Former players Erion Harris and Tim Mason were in attendance today as they are coaching now. UTA's coach Scott Cross attended as well. It was a fun day of basketball.
