"Finally...the Four"
Kansas, UCLA, UNC and Memphis! That has the makings of an awesome Final Four. All of the top seeds made it to the Final Four for the first time ever! That is hard to believe! These four teams represent basketball royalty as these programs are rich in basketball tradition!
Here is a quick evaluation of each team: Memphis – they may be playing the best basketball of any of the remaining four teams. The way they blitzed Michigan State and Texas was incredible! The Tigers are playing their best ball of the year, no doubt! I have said it before; their defense is terrific as it can stifle the best of teams! Now they are hitting their foul shots (30-36 vs UT) and they are involving Dorsey in the offense more. They went from a #1 seed that I thought could get beaten in the earlier rounds (see Mississippi State) to a team that may be the favorite! John Calipari is doing a terrific job! UCLA – Kevin Love is dominating play for the Bruins. His ability and feel for the game are unmatched in college basketball, but he will need more help! Darren Collison needs to be more consistent and Josh Shipp needs to find that jumper that he is hiding in his locker….and quick because the Tigers are ready to stomp on UCLA! Can you go to the "Way Back Machine" and remember UCLA led by Bill "Big Red" Walton playing "Memphis State" with Larry "Lean-in" Kenon in the ‘73 Final Four! The Good Ole' Days. Walton went 21-22 from the field and had 44 points! Note: I was 11 years old!! Kansas – the Jayhawks were the second-most talented team heading into the NCAA's, in my opinion, but they haven't performed at a high level of late. Brandon Rush has the ability to take over any game, yet struggled against Davidson. Their team will need to step it up if they are to beat UNC, in what will be a VERY emotional game for Roy Williams and the Kansas fans. Many Jayhawkers are still upset about his departure in 2003. UNC – I believe this is one of the better teams I have seen in a long time as they have GREAT talent, great depth, balanced scoring, terrific defense, a coach who has "been there" before and most importantly…..a stud who is on a mission! Tyler Hansbrough put on one of the best performances I have ever seen in a big game when he took over the Louisville game. He was not going to be denied!! I can't wait until Saturday. Final Four Saturday is one of the best days in all of sports.
