"UTEP 2"
Saturday’s win at home was one of the most exciting games I have ever been a part of! For our young men to come back and beat a quality opponent like the Miners, only a few days after getting soundly beaten at ECU makes me proud! It would have been easy for our team to “mail it in” at this point of the year, but the character of these guys would not let that happen.
I thought our three seniors were great! Paulius Ritter’s effort and toughness set the tone for us. He is developing a strong low post game. “Po” went to work early inside and had seven first half points. His hustle and banging on the boards was critical!
Derrick Roberts hit some huge shots and made a key assist to Jon Killen late in the game for a three. His defense on Stefon Jackson was fantastic as Jackson didn’t score in the two overtime periods! Derrick put us in position to win this game because of his effort on the defensive end. In spite of knee problems, he lays it out there every night without complaint! I love his toughness.
And what else is there to say about Jon Killen? He finished with 33 points! He told me he never even scored 20 points in high school! Jon had 29 points AFTER half time! How about the big shots he hit! Unbelievable, especially for a young man that didn’t have the reputation as a shooter/scorer in the past. He has worked tirelessly to become a terrific college basketball player and one of the best players in C-USA!
Wednesday we have a chance to send these three seniors off on a great note as we host Memphis in our last home game. There are only a limited number of general admission tickets available. Come on out and support these men and hopefully see the Mustangs shock the world of college basketball!
Pony Up!
