"I'm Alright"
Being 8-14 is not any fun! I don't like to lose, but I'm alright.....as a matter of fact, I'm doing great.
When you are a college coach and you have a record that is sub-500 in February you get these type of questions/comments:
"How are you doing?"
"Are you doing OK?"
"How are you handling it?"
"It must be tough."
The tone of the comments are in such a way that it reminds you of a hospital scene where people are in a waiting room while someone is in the ICU. You sense people are expecting to hear that life is terrible.
Far from it!
My family is healthy, we love Dallas and everything that comes with it - the people, the schools, the weather. I get to do something I love in a city like Dallas! I tell them that if I can handle being 8-20 as the head coach at UNC, I can handle this!
The thing about the situation here at SMU is that we are laying the foundation for the future! We have good young players, more good recruits coming, the beautiful new Crum Basketball Center, a great AD and support from the university! I am more excited about being the head coach at SMU now than when I took this job 1 1/2 years ago!
Oh, by the way, three years after that 8-20 season at UNC.....Carolina won the National Championship!
Pony Up,
Coach Doh
