Kevin Kikugawa is in his fourth year as a member of the SMU Sports Medicine Staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Kikugawa's primary responsibilities are for the care of the football and men's and women's golf programs. He also directly oversees the department's internship position.
Kikugawa came to the Mustangs in 2013 after a year working at Monroe High School just north of Seattle, WA. Prior to Washington, he lived in Ohio working as a seasonal intern with the Cleveland Browns (2011-12). In education, he graduated in 2011 from the University of Arkansas, earning his Master's degree in Athletic Training. He also spent the years 2006-09 achieving his Bachelor's degree from Washington State University. In between his two years at Arkansas, he spent the summer of 2010 as an intern with the Buffalo Bills.
A certified athletic trainer (ATC), Kikugawa is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). In addition, he holds certifications as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He also serves on the Ethnic Diversity Advisory Council (EDAC) through the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association (SWATA).
Kevin and his wife Teresa currently reside in Mesquite, Texas, with their son Kaden and English Bulldog Genghis.
