Assistant Athletic Trainer, MEd, ATC, LAT

Honami Abe is entering her fourth year as a member of the SMU Sports Medicine Staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Abe's primary responsibilities are for the healthcare of the Women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

Prior to coming SMU, Abe completed a year internship at High Point University, where she
primarily worked with the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams. She earned her Master of Education at Auburn University in 2012 while she also served as an Athletic Trainer for the US Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 2011, she received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Indiana State University.

Recently, Abe completed an internship program at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, to support the team USA as an Athletic Trainer. She has also attended several post-graduate courses specializing in manual therapies and functional rehabilitations to achieve optimal health and performance of the student-athletes at SMU.

Honami is originally from Tokyo, Japan. She currently resides in Dallas, TX.
