Two significant events have taken place since my last column:
- The SMU women's cross country team captured the first-ever American Athletic Conference championship! This is the program's fifth championship in the last six seasons. Six runners earned all-conference honors and Head Coach Cathy Casey was named Coach of the Year. They followed that up earlier today by taking second at the South Central Regionals and will now advance to the NCAA Championships next Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana. We are very proud and wish them continued success!
- The next wave of Mustangs signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday (signing day for some sports, including football, will take place in February). Many talented high school seniors declared their intent to attend SMU, including the top point-guard in the country, Emmanuel Mudiay - the highest-rated prospect on record to commit to the Mustangs. We look forward to welcoming these young men and women to the Hilltop and watching them wear the Red & Blue for years to come.
Speaking of basketball, both the men's and the women's team are off to 2-0 starts this season - which includes two victories over the rival Horned Frogs! All four games have been played in the Metroplex, one at the American Airlines Center and three at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. As the non-conference season unfolds and the excitement builds around both programs, there are a few items of importance to share in preparation for the reopening of Moody Coliseum.
Basketball Gameday Central is up and running on SMUMustangs.com with an array of information including directions, ticket info, TV/radio information, parking, special promotions, policies and procedures and more.
SMU faculty/staff ticket information for Moody Coliseum is available here, and student ticket information will be released early next week.
We hope you will support our teams in Garland and Frisco for the remainder of the non-conference season and look forward to seeing you in the renovated Moody Coliseum when the Magic returns in 2014!
Go Mustangs and Pony Up!
