Sep 6, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) - Kurt Pottkotter has been named Senior Associate A.D. for Development, Director of Athletics Rick Hart and Assistant Vice President for University Development Pam Conlin jointly announced today.
Pottkotter is no stranger to the Hilltop, as he has led SMU's National Major Giving team since 2010, successfully building momentum and increasing major gift commitments to The Second Century Campaign from key regional markets. In addition to his major gift experience at SMU and with the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State, Pottkotter has also served SMU as Assistant Director of Development for the Cox School and as Assistant Director of Annual Giving. He earned a Master's degree in Sports Administration at Ohio University and supported Athletics giving efforts at Boston College early in his career.
"I am confident that Kurt's experience in major gift and annual gift fundraising, athletics development, and his team leadership and management skills will assure success for the strategic priorities of SMU and Athletics through the remainder of this Campaign and beyond," said Hart. "These priorities include completing the fundraising goals for the Moody Coliseum renovation and expansion, the new tennis complex, our Circle of Champions initiative, the Trinity Forest Golf project and annual operational funding."
Pottkotter will be responsible for developing and managing the major gifts and annual giving fundraising and program strategies and activities for donors and potential donors who have an affinity for athletics initiatives.
"I'm very excited to join the Athletics staff and look forward to working with Rick and his team," said Pottkotter. "We have been able to generate an historic level of support from alumni, parents and friends during the campaign, both in Athletics and university-wide, but there is much work left to ensure that our student-athletes and coaches have the resources needed to succeed in the classroom and on the fields of play. I look forward to continuing my work in advancing this great university and know that great days are ahead for SMU Athletics."
Pottkotter replaces Tim Leonard, who was named Director of Athletics at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. He will join the Athletics staff on September 16.
