DALLAS (SMU) - With the 2013-14 season set to begin, SMU Athletics today announced several staff additions and promotions.
The most noticeable change for Mustang fans will likely be the creation of new marketing and video departments as SMU seeks to enhance the game day atmosphere and to engage and entertain its fan base.
Leading the marketing staff will be Director of Marketing Katie Glunt and Director of Promotions and Gameday Experience Skyler Johnson, while SMU alum Jon Horton will lead the new MustangVision staff.
Glunt comes to SMU after a stint at Wichita State where she served as Director of Marketing and Game Operations. Under her leadership, Wichita State was named the 2012-13 Marketing Team of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
Johnson is no stranger to SMU, having served as a Marketing Associate for 2012-13 season and as an Assistant Director of Marketing from 2007-2009. He also spent time at Missouri, where he earned his degree and served as a Marketing Associate.
Horton returns to the Hilltop with over 30 years of experience in creating and producing award winning video content. Horton has won seven Emmy Awards and 24 nominations for "Outstanding Sports Programming" and has worked for the University of Washington, Fox Sports, the WNBA's Seattle Storm, the Pac-12 Conference and other media outlets.
In addition, Gentry Beck and Stephen Curitore will serve as Assistant Directors of Marketing and Mandy Lawson will join MustangVision as an Assistant Director.
Lowe, a former SMU basketball standout, returned to SMU in December 2006 and now serves as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business. Lowe serves as the athletic department's Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the financial operations of the department including budget management, contract negotiations and financial reporting. Under his leadership, the athletics department has undergone a transformation by implementing numerous revenue-producing and cost-containment measures to improve the bottom line.
Entering his 13th year on the Hilltop, Sutton now serves as SMU's Senior Associate A.D. for Public Relations and Marketing and oversees public relations, marketing, video services, licensing, communications and broadcasting. He serves as spokesperson for the department on a variety of issues and is also a liaison with University's Public Affairs Office. He serves as program administrator for SMU's men's and women's golf, track and field, and cross country programs, with oversight of all aspects of the program including budgeting, scheduling and compliance issues, and as the primary media contact for SMU's football program. As part of the SMU team, has helped produce a 38 percent increase in football attendance since 2006 and sell a school-record number of season tickets in 2012. He also serves as the Licensing Director for the department, and under his guidance, SMU has set royalty records for seven straight years, posting a 122% increase in royalty income over that same span.
